500 Candles Of Hope For Cancer Patients

Two years into my journey with cancer, I’ve learned that the battle isn’t just happening inside my body—it’s happening in my bank account and at my workplace.

Right now, I’m navigating through my 2nd round of chemo and radiation for lesions on my vertebrae. The fatigue is heavy, and the nausea is real. But like so many others, I don’t have the luxury of taking time off. I “muscle up” and go to work because the bills don’t stop for a diagnosis.

I created Amy’s Candle of Hope for the 500+ patients who walk through the doors of Stroger Hospital’s Cancer Center every day. Many of us earn “too much” for Medicaid but not enough to cover the staggering costs of life-saving care.

Amy’s Candle of Hope offers comfort and calm for cancer patients, so it’s crucial to choose the raw products wisely.

  • Pure essential oils (i.e. lavender or citrus) are used to avoid harsh chemicals and strong artificial fragrances, which can trigger nausea or headaches during treatment.
  • Candles come in 4oz candle jars and small wide mouth empty glass jars with bamboo lids.
  • 100% soy, beeswax, coconut wax or gel wax.

It is important that a natural, unscented, or lightly scented option are specifically labeled; focusing on stress relief and a clean burn for a soothing, gentle experience.

Our Goal: Selling 500 candles a month

Amy’s Candle of Hope is also looking for vendor partners – such as wax or scent suppliers. For this endeavor to be successful, any donated supplies will be used to produce at least 500 4oz candles a month.

Amy’s Candle of Hope will focus on corporations for sales/distribution.  We are also open to collaborating with other cancer organizations for fundraising initiatives.

For every candle purchased, $1.00 will be donated directly to the Stroger Hospital – Cook County Cancer Center. Supporting this brand means supporting the nurses, doctors, and patients who are fighting this fight right alongside me.
